Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) announced the launch of its latest GPUs, targeting gamers eager to play the latest 2024 titles. The new AMD Radeon 7600 XT 16GB and AMD Radeon 7600 XT 8GB are perfect for those who haven’t upgraded their gaming hardware in a while. These GPUs were showcased at CES 2024, the major tech event in Las Vegas this week.
AMD highlighted that half of PC gamers are running high-demand games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, Starfield, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora at suboptimal performance levels, struggling to hit 60 frames per second at 1080p resolution. The new GPUs promise to deliver up to 1.9 times the gaming and ray-tracing performance of the GeForce RTX 2060 in select titles at 1080p, supporting 1440p resolution, and offering powerful AI and content creation capabilities.
Both the 7600 and 7600 XT feature 32 compute units and ray accelerators, along with 64 AI accelerators and 2,048 stream processors. However, the 7600 XT operates at a faster 2.47 GHz compared to the 7600’s 2.25 GHz. The XT version also boasts double the graphics memory. Both models have memory speeds of 18 Gbps and a 128-bit memory bus. The 7600 XT consumes up to 190 watts while the 7600 consumes up to 165 watts. Popular games like Starfield will run smoothly at 60 frames per second at 1440p with these GPUs. The 7600 XT will be available in January for $329, and the 7600 will be released in May for $269. Partners for these GPUs include Acer, ASRock, Asus, Gigabyte, PowerColor, Sapphire, and XFX.
AMD has also enhanced its encoding and video quality, with improvements geared towards streaming and OBS optimizations. It now performs better in AI applications such as Stable Diffusion and Cinebench.
On the processor front, AMD is launching the AMD Ryzen 8040 Series, integrating neural processing units based on AMD XDNA and CPUs based on the Zen 4 architecture. This series will be the first desktop processor line with a dedicated AI engine, providing a combined 39 TFLOPs of processing power. AMD claims this AI processing will enhance performance, security, efficiency, and future cost-effectiveness. Currently, over 100 experiences are optimized for Ryzen AI.
The AMD Ryzen 8000G Series Processor is touted to have the fastest desktop PC graphics globally, offering a fluid gaming experience when paired with Radeon 700M Series graphics. AMD states it can run Hitman 3 four times faster than a comparable Intel Core i7-14700K processor with Intel graphics.
AMD asserts that it leads in AI processing on the client side compared to Intel. Reference data indicates that the AMD Ryzen 7 8840U outperforms Intel Core Ultra 7 155H by being 1.43 times faster at Yolov8, 1.79 times faster at Deeplabv3, and 1.04 times faster at MobileNetv3. In the StableDiffusion benchmark, it is 1.06 times faster.
When it comes to gaming, the AMD Ryzen 7 8840U with Radeon 780M graphics is 1.02 to 1.6 times faster than its Intel counterpart with Intel Arc graphics. Additionally, AMD’s 5000 Series Ryzen processor family, focused on gaming for the AM4 platform, is priced between $125 and $249.
