Writer, an all-encompassing generative AI platform for enterprises, has announced a major expansion with the introduction of AI Studio—a suite of developer tools—and the Writer Framework, a new tool designed to help companies rapidly build and deploy custom generative AI applications. Additionally, the company has rolled out new API endpoints and acquired Streamsync, a real-time application platform now integrated into the Writer Framework.
These initiatives position Writer as a comprehensive solution for enterprise AI management, underscoring the 200-person company’s commitment to making generative AI more accessible and practical for businesses of varying sizes.
May Habib, co-founder and CEO of Writer, emphasized the shift in programming paradigms, stating, “Natural language is becoming the new programming language.” She highlighted the importance of merging AI engineering expertise with business users’ insights for effective AI tool development.
Empowering Developers to Build Custom AI Apps Easily
The notable announcement is the Writer Framework, a drag-and-drop development environment included with Writer AI Studio. It enables developers to swiftly create custom AI-powered applications by connecting pre-built UI components with generative AI models and allows full customization of underlying code.
Sam Julien, head of developer relations at Writer, explained that the Writer Framework, designed by developers for developers, provides familiar tools like drag-and-drop interfaces, Python, and API endpoints. This makes AI integration a seamless part of application development, without requiring expertise in AI.
The Writer Framework supports the entire Python ecosystem and gives developers fine-tuned control over prompts, with the freedom to edit generative AI flows in their preferred code editor. Julien noted that the framework’s reliance on APIs allows integration with any data that has an API, offering developers a versatile generative AI toolbox for their app development needs.
From Product Descriptions to Chatbots: The Versatility of Writer Framework
Several clients have already leveraged the Writer Framework for innovative applications. For instance, online lingerie retailer Adore Me developed a product description generator that translates descriptions into multiple languages and formats, while automatically identifying top SEO keywords. Other initial use cases include social media post generators, spreadsheet-based content workflows, and internal knowledge management chatbots.
Writer’s AI Studio platform and Framework highlight the increasing need for enterprises to operationalize generative AI and create practical applications that deliver business value. As large language models become more common, companies that can offer robust infrastructure and user-friendly tools around core AI will gain a competitive advantage.
Julien emphasized, “We’re lowering the entry barriers for average developers at any enterprise to build with AI, without needing expertise in large language models or AI infrastructure. This represents our broader vision.”
Founded in 2020, Writer has secured $126 million in venture funding from ICONIQ Growth, WndrCo, Insight Partners, Gradient Ventures, among others. The startup has successfully engaged large enterprises like Accenture, Deloitte, and Intuit. With Writer AI Studio and Writer Framework, the company aims to make generative AI more accessible and beneficial to a wider range of businesses and developers.
