Google is expanding its AI platform by incorporating more third-party models, aiming to give businesses greater flexibility in app development. Just days after integrating Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 Sonnet into Vertex AI, Google announced that it will support Mistral Small, Mistral Large, and Mistral Codestral starting this July. These models will be accessible through the Vertex AI Model Garden.
Google is committed to ensuring that its Vertex platform offers the most effective tools and models for organizations. Recognizing that its own Gemini models may not meet everyone’s preferences, the company is incorporating widely-used large language models (LLMs) like Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 Sonnet, which is highly regarded for its performance. The upcoming addition of Mistral’s models will provide Vertex AI users with more options, including small and large language models, as well as a code-generating LLM.
This isn’t the first collaboration between Google and Mistral. In 2023, they partnered to integrate Mistral-7B into Vertex AI Notebooks, which data scientists and machine learning engineers use for workflow management within Google’s platform. However, this time, Mistral Small, Large, and Codestral will be available for all developers beyond just the Notebooks environment.
This development is a significant achievement for Mistral, especially after securing a substantial $640 million in funding earlier this month, strengthening its reputation as a reliable player in the AI sector.
