Nabla, a French startup focused on developing an AI copilot to streamline how doctors interact with patients, recently announced it has secured $24 million in series B funding. The investment, led by Cathay Innovation and Zebox, aims to expand Nabla’s offerings and quicken its U.S. market penetration. This new funding brings Nabla’s total capital raised to $44.6 million.

Despite the emergence of several AI copilots, their integration into healthcare has been sluggish due to concerns from medical professionals. However, Nabla’s AI copilot has successfully addressed these issues, providing doctors with a reliable assistant that enhances their workflow.

Nabla Copilot functions as a web app or Chrome extension on a doctor’s computer, listening to consultations and generating clinical notes almost instantly. This saves doctors the time and effort required to manually document patient information.

These notes capture all vital details, including the patient’s medical issue, history, and prescribed treatments. Doctors can then review and edit these notes before adding them to electronic health records. Soon, the platform will also generate patient instruction letters, which can be saved as PDFs and printed.

Nabla leverages advanced real-time speech-to-text AI technology. A blend of Microsoft’s speech-to-text API and a fine-tuned Whisper model transcribes the conversation, which is then summarized into clinical notes using GPT language models. The platform ensures that personally identifiable information (PII) is masked during this process and unmasked only after the output is generated. Speech and notes are not stored unless the physician and patient give explicit consent.

In just 10 months since its launch, Nabla Copilot has significantly impacted the healthcare industry, with over 20,000 providers adopting it and nearly three million consultations conducted. Physicians have reported substantial time savings, allowing them to focus more on patient care rather than administrative tasks. For example, M. Tursich, a psychologist, mentioned that Nabla has drastically reduced his documentation time, allowing him to regain his weekends and focus more on his patients.

Nabla’s fine-tuned models achieve highly accurate outputs, with only 5% of generated notes needing adjustments, and the company expects further improvements. With the new funding, Nabla plans to expand its reach in the U.S. and eventually develop a comprehensive AI system to support physicians across all aspects of clinical practice, including medical decision support. Additionally, the funding will help introduce more language options to the assistant.

Currently, Nabla Copilot is accessible with any email, not limited to official provider emails, and supports English, Spanish, and French.
