Snap is enhancing its augmented reality Lenses by incorporating ChatGPT, reflecting AI’s growing role in consumer products. Through a partnership with OpenAI, Snap developed the ChatGPT Remote API, allowing Lens developers to use ChatGPT in their Lenses. This enhancement opens up new learning, conversational, and creative possibilities for Snapchat users. Additionally, a 3D face mask generator has been integrated, enabling quick creation of self-expression Lenses. Combining generative AI with advanced face mesh technology, Snap enables the crafting of viral Lenses in seconds.

During the Lens Fest 2023 event, Snap unveiled its Lens Studio 5.0 beta for advanced AR development. Currently, over 330,000 developers are part of the Snap ecosystem, and Snap has sold more than 3.5 million Lenses, which were viewed over three trillion times last year.

Snap’s goal is to equip the AR community with the best tools for creating the next generation of AR experiences. This mission extends beyond Snapchat, supported by offerings like Camera Kit and Spectacles.

A key part of this mission is the revamp of Lens Studio, the foundation for creating Lenses. Lens Studio 5.0 Beta focuses on enhancing performance for complex AR projects, resulting in projects loading 18 times faster. This beta also fosters collaboration among development teams by supporting version control tools like Git, enabling multiple developers to work on projects simultaneously.

Alongside these innovations, Snap Inc. remains committed to supporting developers in building businesses and audiences on its platform. Last year’s introduction of Lenses with Digital Goods allowed developers to include revenue models directly in their Lenses. Now, Digital Goods are available to all developers, offering exclusive AR features that Snapchat users can unlock for a fee. A new section within Lens Explorer will promote Lenses with Digital Goods, making them easy to find.

Snap Inc. has also highlighted the success of the Lens Creator Rewards program, launched this summer. The program offers monthly rewards of up to $7,200 for top-performing Lenses in certain regions. In its first month, over 45,000 Lenses joined the program, generating more than 5 billion interactions by Snapchat users.
