Ludo.ai has been incorporating AI into game development tools for three years and is now leveraging generative AI to create a text-to-video generator for developers. Tom Pigott, CEO of Ludo.ai, revealed that they have launched the beta version of their Video Generator tool. This innovation enables game developers to craft gameplay videos in seconds, making it easier to visualize game concepts quickly and efficiently.

The Video Generator converts text prompts into engaging gameplay videos. Pigott mentioned that Ludo recognizes the high costs of game development, especially for indie developers. Their tool simplifies the idea creation and visualization process, offering a realistic preview of games in action.

Pigott noted that his team has been working on AI game tools for some time and wasn’t surprised to see generative AI emerge as a transformative technology in the past year. He recalled educating people about the impact of these tools, which became more apparent with innovations like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and other image generators.

The Video Generator is a dynamic tool to inspire creators by transforming text prompts into vivid gameplay videos. This quick visualization helps reduce development time and facilitates experimentation and prototyping. Currently, it produces three-second videos for developers.

Pigott emphasized that the tool not only boosts productivity but also fuels creativity. It streamlines the translation of game ideas into reality, significantly improving the efficiency for developers globally. Ludo.ai now offers a suite of tools, including ideation, image generation, and video generation. Their latest tool can generate gameplay videos for games not yet created, providing a glimpse of what the final product might look like. This helps in securing project approvals more easily.

The tool generates five to ten seconds of video, and the company can adjust the models it uses according to development needs. “We’re not trying to be all things to all people,” Pigott said. He noted that the team’s AI experts have never seen such rapid technological advancements as in recent years. However, he believes AI won’t eliminate jobs but will transform developers into curators and editors of game assets. This allows smaller game companies to gain a competitive edge affordably.

Pigott attributed industry layoffs this year to unmet game expectations rather than AI. An additional beta feature allows developers to use their existing video footage and process it through the Video Generator to experiment with new features and elements. This AI-driven content analysis helps developers adapt and implement changes more dynamically.

Regarding competition, Pigott isn’t concerned. He aims to make Ludo.ai the go-to platform for small and medium-sized studios seeking AI tools. The company is optimistic about the impact of their video tool in 2024.

Despite the promising prospects, Ludo.ai has been cautious about seeking external funding. They now generate their own revenue, with over 30,000 users, having monetized after being free until recently. Pigott reiterated their goal to be the comprehensive AI-powered platform for game developers. He envisions the next step for AI will be the generation of 3D assets, initially in user-generated content and gradually expanding to professional use, though he acknowledged the challenges in simulating realistic physics.
