Samsung has teamed up with Google Cloud to bring generative AI to the Samsung Galaxy S24 Series smartphones. This multi-year partnership aims to introduce advanced AI features to Samsung smartphone users worldwide, starting with the Galaxy S24 series, unveiled today at the Galaxy Unpacked event in San Jose, California.

Samsung is the first Google Cloud partner to integrate Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 on Vertex AI into its smartphones. Janghyun Yoon, corporate executive vice president at Samsung Electronics, expressed excitement over the Galaxy S24 series being the first equipped with these advanced AI features.

Gemini Pro, a multimodal AI system, enhances user experience by integrating seamlessly with Samsung-native applications like Notes, Voice Recorder, and Keyboard. It ensures security, safety, privacy, and data compliance through Vertex AI. Additionally, the Galaxy S24 series features Imagen 2, Google’s text-to-image diffusion technology, enabling intuitive photo-editing capabilities in the S24’s Gallery app.

Samsung is also among the first to test Gemini Ultra for complex tasks and will use Gemini Nano, an on-device Large Language Model (LLM) delivered with Android 14, to boost on-device efficiency. Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, highlighted the benefits of this collaboration, emphasizing the enhanced generative AI applications on Samsung devices.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 series, including the Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24, emphasizes AI to enhance user experiences. From intelligent text and call translations to creative tools with Galaxy’s ProVisual Engine, the series sets a new standard for mobile innovation. TM Roh, president and head of the mobile experience business at Samsung Electronics, emphasized how Galaxy AI aims to enhance communication and creative freedom.

Key features include Live Translate2 for real-time voice and text translation during calls, Chat Assist for perfecting conversational tones in messages, and AI translation capabilities within Samsung Keyboard. Android Auto will summarize incoming messages and suggest relevant actions via voice commands, allowing users to stay connected safely while driving.

Organizational tools like Note Assist in Samsung Notes offer AI-generated summaries and template creation. Transcript Assist transcribes and summarizes voice recordings even with multiple speakers. The Galaxy S24’s home button provides high-quality search results through AI-powered overviews for complex questions.

The ProVisual Engine enhances image capturing, offering tools like Generative Edit for filling in backgrounds and adjusting subject positions. The Galaxy S24 Ultra’s Quad Tele System and five times optical zoom lens ensure high-quality images at various zoom levels, including enhanced digital zoom.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform, optimized for Galaxy users to improve AI processing efficiency. This chipset, along with adaptive refresh rates, enhances performance across all Galaxy S24 models. Users have control over their data’s role in AI experiences through Advanced Intelligence settings.

Pre-orders for the Galaxy S24 series begin today, January 17, 2024, and the phones will be available starting January 31, 2024. The Galaxy S24 Ultra starts at $1,300, the Galaxy S24+ at $1,000, and the Galaxy S24 at $800, with various storage options.
