You.com, an AI assistant that pioneered conversational and multimodal search before companies like Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI, is once again leading the way with its new “AI Modes.” Released today, these modes enable You.com to solve complex, multi-step problems that other popular chatbots can’t handle.
The new AI Modes—Smart, Genius, Create, and Research—offer different levels of depth and sourcing for any query, making prompt engineering unnecessary. Notably, no other AI assistant can solve multi-step problems like You.com’s new Genius and Research modes.
“Our main focus is to deliver amazing answers that are accurate, fast, visual, conversational, and ultimately useful,” said You.com CEO and co-founder Richard Socher. “Genius and Research Modes showcase our commitment to this vision and our ability to innovate conversational AI.”
Smart Mode, the default on You.com, functions like other search chatbots, providing quick, accurate replies with live web access, citations, and sources. You.com was the first consumer-facing large language model (LLM) in late 2022 to offer real-time internet access for up-to-date answers.
Genius Mode stands out with new multi-step logical reasoning and data visualization capabilities, including charts and plots, file uploads, and AI image creation. It can not only answer questions but also perform additional commands, such as plotting answers on a graph or creating images for a bedtime story.
Create Mode transforms any concept into an AI image in various styles or generates charts and plots. It eliminates the need for specific prompt commands, making the process more intuitive.
Research Mode excels in providing comprehensive reports with extensive source citations and references, ideal for tasks like decision-making. Leveraging You.com’s foundation in web search and indexing, Research Mode offers unparalleled accuracy and transparency with more citations and links than any other AI chatbot.
Today’s release includes a significant breakthrough in how different LLMs are orchestrated behind the scenes for each query. Socher explained that You.com combines its own models with third-party models like GPT-3 and GPT-4, selecting the best model for each query. He noted that increased engineering around core language models will be crucial as they become commoditized.
Founded by AI research scientists Richard Socher and Bryan McCann, You.com aims to change how people discover and engage with information online. Unlike traditional search engines that rely on keywords and links, You.com provides conversational, personalized, and continuously learning answers that adapt to each user’s needs and preferences.
You.com emphasizes trust and transparency, offering tailored responses while respecting privacy and ensuring transparent control over personal data. It was the first consumer-facing LLM with internet access for real-time answers and recently debuted an AI agent that executes code to answer math and science questions accurately. You.com’s API also enables other LLM-based chatbots to improve their accuracy with real-time web access.
Looking ahead, You.com plans to continue innovating and adding new features to its AI modes and core technology. The company is exploring partnerships with publishers and content creators to share monetization strategies and ensure fair data use.
“We want to make sure that this technology shines, and the way to do that is to focus on accuracy,” Socher said. “It’s important that these systems are correct 95%, 99%, eventually 100% of the time, which requires a lot of extra work and engineering.”
All AI modes are currently free for everyone to try on You.com. While unlimited Smart Mode queries are available for free to account holders, paid YouPro members get unlimited access to all modes, enhanced personalization, and models like GPT-4 with live web access.
If past breakthroughs like multimodal search are any indication, Richard Socher and You.com seem poised to once again push the AI industry forward with their latest innovation—AI modes that finally unlock comprehensive question-answering and problem-solving for users.
