Intel has unveiled its Intel Core Ultra processors for AI-powered PCs at its AI Everywhere event today. These processors herald a new era in computing with unmatched power efficiency, superior performance in both computing and graphics, and a groundbreaking AI experience for mobile platforms and edge devices. Available immediately, these processors will be featured in over 230 AI PCs from top partners like Acer, ASUS, Dell, and Gigabyte.
Michelle Johnston Holthaus, Intel’s executive VP and general manager of the client computing group, stated that the Intel Core Ultra launch highlights the company’s crucial role in integrating AI into the PC world. She predicted that by 2028, AI-powered PCs would make up 80% of the PC market, signifying a major leap in computing advancements.
The Intel Core Ultra processors signify a significant architectural transformation for Intel, marking the largest design shift in 40 years. They use Intel 4 process technology and Foveros 3D advanced packaging to maximize performance and capabilities. These processors feature a performance-core (P-core) architecture, efficient-cores (E-cores), and low-power Efficient-cores (LP E-cores), providing up to 11% more computing power than competitors for ultrathin PCs.
The new processors come with an Intel Arc GPU, offering up to eight Xe-cores and AI-based Xe Super Sampling, doubling the graphics performance of previous generations. They support modern graphics features like ray tracing, mesh shading, AV1 encoding, and more.
Intel’s latest NPU, AI Boost, is designed to handle low-power, long-running AI tasks, enhancing AI processing on both the CPU and GPU. It delivers 2.5 times better power efficiency than previous models.
With up to 16 cores, 22 threads, and Intel Thread Director for optimized workload scheduling, these processors can reach a turbo frequency of 5.1 GHz and support up to 96 GB of DDR5 memory. They also feature cutting-edge connectivity options like integrated Intel Wi-Fi 6E, support for Intel Wi-Fi 7, and Thunderbolt 4 for connecting multiple 4K monitors and fast storage.
The processors enhance AI performance through toolkits like OpenVINO, ONNX, and ONNX Runtime, which streamline workflows and improve AI capabilities.
The newest Intel Evo edition laptops with Intel Core Ultra processors promise top-notch performance with better battery life, instant wake capabilities, fast charging, high-quality cameras, and extended connectivity features. As Intel forges new partnerships and expands its Engineered for Intel Evo program, the future of computing looks promising, moving towards AI-powered PCs that redefine personal computing.
