Formlabs, based in Somerville, Massachusetts, keeps expanding its 3D printing ecosystem and can now print teeth for dentures. The company announced these new capabilities at CES 2024 in Las Vegas, showcasing a new Resin Pumping System and introducing two new materials: Polypropylene Powder and Premium Teeth Resin. These advancements are expected to significantly impact industries ranging from dentistry to industrial manufacturing.

Having sold over 130,000 printers globally, Formlabs continues to lead in the 3D printing industry. The new Resin Pumping System and materials enhance the efficiency, versatility, and scalability of their 3D printing solutions.

Formlabs’ chief product officer, Dávid Lakatos, mentioned that 3D printing production is steadily increasing. The innovations of the Resin Pumping System, Polypropylene Powder, and Premium Teeth Resin are notable milestones in providing professionals with comprehensive tools to realize their ideas.

The Resin Pumping System, designed for Form 3 and Form 3L printers, streamlines production by allowing continuous printing for extended periods. It reduces resin costs and waste by delivering five liters of resin directly to the printer’s tank. The system is priced at $199 and is currently available, initially offering at least a 10% discount compared to one-liter cartridges.

Polypropylene Powder expands the SLS portfolio, enabling the printing of items typically made from polypropylene, such as home appliances, electronics, sports equipment, and prototypes. This new material offers efficiency and cost-effectiveness, particularly with the Fuse 1+ 30W 3D printers. Formlabs now boasts 45 in-house materials for prototyping and product design, easing supply chain challenges and accommodating a range of applications including spare parts and rapid tooling.

The introduction of Premium Teeth Resin marks a significant advancement in dental 3D printing. With its nano-ceramic filled composition, this FDA-registered material is suitable for 3D printed denture teeth and temporary full-arch implant-supported restorations. It provides lifelike aesthetics, durability, and streamlined workflows. This material offers customizable solutions tailored to each patient, ensuring natural-looking translucent and opalescent dental products.

In practice, the Premium Teeth Resin supports affordable and personalized dental care, meeting diverse patient needs through its excellent aesthetic and mechanical properties. It is designed for ease of use, ensuring optimal performance and visual appeal.

Feedback from users like Skydio’s senior hardware development specialist, Eric Weinhoffer, highlights the practical advantages of the Resin Pumping System, which reduces the need for frequent cartridge checks and ensures smooth operation of 3D printers.

Likewise, dentists such as Christopher Baer from Baer Dental have praised the Premium Teeth Resin for its strength and natural finish, emphasizing its utility in producing high-quality, aesthetic dental products.
