OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, is inviting aspiring startup founders to apply for a chance to receive $1 million in funding and access to exclusive resources from its Startup Fund. This offer comes with participation in a six-week program that requires a maximum of six hours per week. Even individuals with no prior AI experience or those who don’t currently use OpenAI’s products are welcome to apply.

Last night, OpenAI’s co-founder and CEO Sam Altman, along with CTO and former interim CEO Mira Murati, shared a link to an OpenAI blog post on the social platform X (formerly known as Twitter). This post announced the launch of “Converge 2,” the second iteration of its program under the OpenAI Startup Fund. The first session of Converge began in December 2022.

“Converge 2” invites potential AI startup founders worldwide to submit their applications with minimal information about themselves and their ideas on OpenAI’s website. Successful applicants will receive funding, coaching, and expertise to help develop and grow their companies.

After the application period ends, OpenAI’s Startup Fund will select between 10 to 15 companies to receive $1 million each. While this amount may seem small compared to the multi-million-dollar seed rounds common today, it is invaluable for those in the pre-seed or early stages of their business journey.

Anyone can apply, even if their idea is still just a concept, as long as they fill out a simple online application form. Applicants need to provide their name, a brief description of their company, social profile links, and a 30-second video pitch.

Importantly, OpenAI does not require applicants to use or commit to using OpenAI’s APIs for products like GPT-3.5/4, ChatGPT Plus/Enterprise, Codex, or DALL-E. The FAQ section on the Converge 2 announcement page clearly states that the program is open to anyone building or aspiring to build on advanced AI models.

The application window is open until January 26, 2024. To apply, simply fill out the online form.

Converge 2 will run from March 11 to April 19, 2024. The program requires a commitment of 4-6 hours per week, with the flexibility to participate remotely. However, the first and last weeks feature in-person events in San Francisco, with travel expenses covered by OpenAI.

The six-week program is designed to provide a rich learning and development experience. Participants will engage in tech talks, office hours, and social events, and will have the chance to interact with top AI practitioners and startup founders. This will offer deep insights into current AI opportunities and challenges.

No prior experience with AI systems is required, making the program accessible to a wide range of innovators. OpenAI’s approach supports its vision of fostering diversity in the AI field, encouraging applications from underrepresented backgrounds and those outside the United States.

In line with its commitment to inclusivity, Converge 2 welcomes applicants from all backgrounds.
