Salesforce is enhancing its AI capabilities with new features and support.

Just before the World Tour NYC event, Salesforce announced that it will add vector database support and improve its Einstein Copilot generative assistant with AI search functionalities.

These new features will be integrated into the Einstein 1 Platform, which includes Data Cloud, Copilot, CRM apps, and the Copilot Studio for building AI-driven applications. This integration will make it easier for teams to use AI in their workflows, whether they’re developing custom generative AI apps or using the Copilot assistant for project information.

Salesforce Data Cloud, the company’s data platform, combines data from various customer touchpoints to create unified profiles in real time. Previously, teams had to spend significant time and resources fine-tuning large language models (LLMs) on both structured and unstructured data. With the new vector database support, Salesforce eliminates the need for this time-consuming process. The platform now converts all unstructured business data, like PDFs and emails, into a usable vector format and unifies it with structured information. This enhancement enables seamless generative AI and analytics within various Salesforce CRM workflows, providing robust data insights and streamlined processes through relevant prompts.

For example, marketers can use Marketing Cloud Intelligence to analyze unstructured survey data and transcripts within Data Cloud to understand customer intent. These insights can then inform email campaign templates.

Recognizing that 90% of enterprise data is unstructured, Salesforce is focusing on vector database support as a way to unlock this untapped potential. Other major data ecosystem vendors, such as Snowflake and Databricks, also support both structured and unstructured data.

Einstein Copilot, Salesforce’s generative AI assistant, will also benefit from the vector database capabilities. Users will be able to use AI-driven Einstein Copilot Search to query both structured and unstructured business data, pulling up precise information for their tasks. For instance, a sales representative could prompt Einstein Copilot to retrieve specific customer information, including financial filings and past emails, and ask follow-up questions to gain deeper insights. This feature will offer similar benefits across other CRM apps that support Einstein Copilot, providing a conversational helper for various tasks. Additionally, the assistant will cite its sources, ensuring teams can trust the information it provides.

These features are set to launch in February 2024, with Einstein Copilot becoming available for general use. The company will also pilot vector database support and AI search in the same month, although the exact timeline for general availability is still uncertain.
